Should RP Night Return?

Since we are very close to officially being open I thought I'd open the discussion on if we should have an RP Night like before. I know there's only officially 3-4 of us to start so lets all please answer the following:

1) Should we have an RP Night?

2) How often should we have one? Once a Week? Every other week? Every 3 Weeks? Once a Month?

3) Should it be on the same night each time or should we alternate certian days? If so what days?

4) How do you think attendance soulc be encourged? Should we have different themes, storyline rps, or events attached to different times?

5) Should we have an open RP Night (separate from our member one) in /say to attract prospective members?


Let's discuss!

Yes we should, and we should probably keep it Friday or Saturday night.

1.) Yes.

2.) Once every two weeks should be okay.

3.) Same day and each time sounds fine.

4.) Encouraged but definitely not enforced. Varying themes/locations aren't a bad idea. For example we might gather for some fishing on the ferry, or gather together for an Eco-Warrior. Maybe even hit up some questing, anything that can be done in an RP-like setting.

5.) While a good idea, RP night is just meant to be that, a night to gather for RP. So another separate night for it isn't needed.

Now as for chat modes, the say mode should be the default one we use. Under only certain circumstances (Heavily populated areas such as Jeuno's Merry Minstrel.) should the chat be taken to a party setting. In regards to specific storyline or character events those are best to be kept separate from RP night as to prevent spotlight hogging or leaving others out. To fit within "RP reasons" it may be hard for two characters who don't get along to find common ground as to why they'd be willing to help each other.

Dramatics should be kept within reason (Getting drunk and acting stupid is acceptable, but coming in with an "It's all about me!" attitude should be checked at the door.) to prevent the wrong image about our LS. And one important thing to remember is try not to let disruptive crashers get the best of you. If someone outside the linkshell replies with a question or comment, try replying with an IC answer or use an OOC tag with a short explanation and welcome them to join in. If they continue to try disrupting us don't be afraid to use the blacklist feature.

Hope this helps Tsu... And one idea might be to find a way to incorporate it into RP terms! We could call it a "Mercenary Gathering", a time where the Sfant Umbra mercenaries just gather together when not on missions for ordinary chit-chat and seeking assistance with smaller quests or tasks not assigned by the agency.

EDIT: Forgot to add that a poll should be put up each time prior by whoever hosts the night to determine what everyone wants to do that night, and no two nights should ever be the same. Eco-Warrior may seem like a good idea however if nobody wants to do that then they may not show up. And doing two nights in a row of that could get boring.

Might this work for you Tsu?

* When hosting/attending a RP Night please refrain from making personal storylines (Example would be like a personal crisis your character is trying to overcome.) and events the main attraction. We want the night to be easy for those new or trying to join find a way to assimilate into the conversation. This includes being over-dramatic in a situation. Going into a drunken stupor is perfectly fine providing you act how a drunk should act. But don't be surprised if your character receives the boot (Is kicked out of the tavern, not a party RP session.) by the rest of the party!

* Impress! During our RP Night sessions there may be outside inquiry. If someone outside of the linkshell joins in the roleplay, respond back in-character! The same rules for OOC chit-chat applies in RP Nights so use your OOC tags when responding in an OOC manner. Make an effort to respond to outside commotion using an IC approach. Of course, if someone's being very disruptive do not engage in an argument under any circumstance! Instead, simply ignore and blacklist the individual. Also, any inquiries about the RP or linkshell should be directed towards the forums here. It's not required but if you can explain what RP is and what our group is all about the better!

* Be on your best behavior! You represent Sfant Umbra when you gather for this evening and being disruptive or foul-mouthed doesn't give a good impression of our group. When using "Say" to roleplay please refrain from using curse words or other derogatory phrases. An otherwise rude and offensive character can still keep their nature intact while respecting SE's rules. (It helps if you quietly inform individuals you're just acting out a character.) We cannot be held responsible if an outside party deems it offensive and calls a GM on you.

* Out of respect for the rest of the FFXI community, please avoid hosting a RP Night in heavily populated areas with alot of traffic. If you do, please use the "Party" channel for all emotes and conversations. Otherwise outside of these areas we ask you use "Say". Makes it easier for others and allows outside sources to join in if they want.

* Suggest a different activity or theme for every meeting, something that all members should be able to participate in. These nights aren't meant for specific characters but meant as an open RP session where anyone, inside or outside the shell, can participate in.

Tweak as you want, but think this covers the basics. All things aside, the standard rules of the LS apply anyway even during this night.
