I have decided to make a thread specifically for requesting movies for me to review, new and old (even if its an older Bond film or so on). Mainly because there is nothing coming to theaters I feel up to seeing until the Sherlock Holmes movie which is in December.

As I stated before, there are few exceptions to requests you can give.

No:

Chick flicks
Twilight
Harry Potter
Westerns (just don't really like them, except Good Bad and Ugly)
Black and white films from the older days (Like 1940s martian movies)
Foreign films (except anime)
Porn
Hentai
Children films (except Pixar made)
Live action disney films

Other than that, its an open request. This is set up on a first come first served basis, and I can not guarantee next day watch and review.

So come on everyone, give me something to do other than waste many an hour on my new Playstation 3 and Batman game!

Fullmetal Alchemist: Conquerer of Shamballa

I've seen the movie before but only in Japanese and from what I've been told it's in english now. But if you're bored...

Cowboy Bepop: The Movie
Epic Movie (I wanna see if anyone else thinks this is as bad as I do.)
Final Fantasy: Spirits Within

If I can think of anymore I'll tell ya... But personally despite the ending I did like Spirits Within... Dunno why...

EDIT: Another for ya... "I Love You Man". Looks like it might be funny... IDK...

I have the Bebop movie so I can get right on that one, the others I have to get to some red boxes or check other sources.

Just to warn you, I hated Spirits Within, but I'll watch it again just for review sake, been awhile since I have.

Whoa whoa whoa DS lol, give me some breather here.

I already reviewed the transformers movies, Dark Knight, Terminator 4, Tropical Thunder, the Incredible Hulk (the newer one btw) and Sair already requested the Cowboy Bebop movie. Check my review pages, or the link back to the Tapestry page for my older reviews (in the sticky thread, first post).

Now, as for some of your other requests, I'll get to them when I can lol, but do you have a way to get a hold of the Gundam movie? Blockbuster doesn't have it the last time I been, and would love to have it myself. I miss Gundam Wing.

My first is defiantly going to be the Bebop movie since I already have it, the rest of the order will depend on what i have and what I have to rent/search for.

Ahhh, lol. Well I actually already watched most of those (especially Holy Grail, Star Wars and what not). My mistake lol. So Sair, you're the only request so far.

I've heard of Gamer and 9, but what's Ponyo and Whiteout?

You're movies are added to my list.

Adam Sandler's Eight Crazy Nights (X-Mas Film with an animated Adam Sandler.)

And a few more ones:

Where the Wild Things Are
A Christmas Carol (Jim Carrey/Disney version)

Being it's a Disney movie I don't know if you'd review the second one and I don't know who made the first one. If they're on your "no" list then nevermind. But on a side note, I don't know why but one of those "wild things" reminds me of Whoopi Goldberg.

I can add both. I may have lost base with Disney with some of the decisions they make, but its a Jim Carry movie and a Christmas Carol. Why not?

I'm not sure if you're referring to the animation department but if you are things have changed. My friend works there and you'll start seeing more coming from them. The head honcho of Pixar now runs the animation department, hand drawn as well, and pretty much is merging to a degree. Movies his team works on will be done with "pixar" on them though. I'd ask you to review Princess and the Frog if you didn't seem so prejudiced against Disney. I'm fastinated with the twist of it being in New Orleans and involve voo doo ( the bad guy is being voiced by the guy that did Goliath in Gargoyles).

Not everything they do is kid oriented. Remember Hunchback and Pocahontus? Those definitely were geared for a more mature audience with deeper themes. They got a lot of flack for those so they still do the "whole family approach" to fairytales and toss in a couple of cute/funny things to make the little ones giggle and mom and dad are happy. Still I love watching their movies since the animation is amazing, the stories are well executed, and they are clever. /shrug

Quote :
Good example were The Black Crows (I think it was Dumbo) being the stereotypical African American, worst of all was the leader was Jim Crow and any history people will get the point.

Yeah everything from the era Dumbo was made (and not just Disney movies) were racist. Just look at the racial sterotypes in Warner Brothers and MGM shorts and movies like Topper, Cabin in the Sky etc. I don't expect anything from that era to be not racist honestly. That was main stream Hollywood and mainstream america at the time and now looking back we can see how racist they were. So it wasn't a case of "Disney was a racist company and made racist movies when the rest of the world was making non-racist movies" so I don't think we can pick on any one company or movie only but Hollywood in general.

Actually I think if you look hard enough you can see sterotypes in a lot of Hollywood movies still. Actually they have been representing a lot more races positively and might unknowingly present sterotypes ( hey Fairytales are primarily white and European) but at least they were primarily attempts at being positive. By making movies like Mulan (Chinese), Aladdin (Middle Eastren), Hunchback (Romani/Gypsy), Pocahontus (Native American) and now Princess and the Frog (African American) they are trying to come away from sterotypes. Maybe they didn't perfectly represent the culture ( I've never seen a perfectly represented culture in a white hollywood production honestly) but they attempted. For instance a lot was complained about Pocahontus because a) it was based on the ego trip fairytale of John Smith a white Europeon b) Their dress was of plains Indians and not of the east coast were the primary ones. If you look at the movie though it really presented the Native American population as more noble than the white people who were sort of rduced to money-hungry and greedy. So technically in some ways it was racist but they made an effort to present Native Americans and their views positively even having consultants. I appreciate the effort I guess.

Edit: Oh and in using Pocahontus contrast "Colors of the Wind" with "What Made the Red Man Red?" from Peter Pan. The were 100% representing the racial sterotypes of native americans in Peter Pan and I think contrasting the two shows how far things have come.

On a Dumbo note, my brother's wife is African American and loves Dumbo and the crows. I asked her if she found them, and King Louie who is another supposedly racist character which she owns, offensive and she said no. Despite the "Jim Crow" reference she felt they were heros for teaching Dumbo to fly so she thought it was pretty forward thinking for the time. As for King Louie she never saw him as anything but a scat singing organutang.

My concluding point is I guess people are obsessed with being "politically correct" to the point where they nit-pick movies and things to death. If anyone dares have 2 races in a movie with one the villian and the other the hero that movie suddenly would be labeled racist 9 times out the 10 when no stero-typing is contained unless the villian is white.

Whoa there Tsu, I'm not completely prejudice against Disney, they just grew stale for me ever since their channel went from good cartoons (like Gargoyles, Tail Spin, etc.) to the live action crap like Jones Brothers *shudders*, and how their trying to push that crap on children like its good music.

I'll think about Princess and the Frog, I need to see a trailer or two for it first. And like I said before, I love Pixiar movies. Toy Story 1/2, and Incredibles are my top favorites.

Whew, I got a lot of requests going right now. I'm going to see Zombieland tomorrow after class, so I'll have that out of the way shortly, then I'm going to try to go down the line as fast as I can.

DS, I guess for you I'll give it a shot. But don't expect a lot out of me. Movies made so far back like that one is, I'm unable to attach to in a way that when I'd talk about it, I wouldn't have much of a good word for it. For example, I could never say anything good about the original Godzilla movie, the black and white 1950s one. Godzilla fans called it the very best in the series, but I was greatly bored by it. I'll see what I can do.

I've got a request for ya... Avatar. Not that Nickelodeon show mind you, the new movie by James Cameron. I'm strapped for cash so I uh, "previewed" the movie via torrent but intend on seeing it in Theaters just because it's that good of a movie. Since you're good at writing reviews I'll leave that up to you.

Added Sair, I'll get to it some time after Christmas (since I'll undoubtedly get money from relatives Very Happy ) and I plan to see and review Sherlock Holmes first.
