| [The following letter is messily written. The print slants to the right and smears in the same direction; the writer probably used their left hand.]To: Sfant Umbra Mercenary AgencyMy name is Kairi, and I hear that you may be hiring. I currently earn my way as a performer but, honestly, it isn't keeping the bills paid. I am a jack-of-all-trades and willing to take any job you can give me. I have a talent for natural medicines and traditional healing, and if necessary I can hold my own in a fight. Signed,[a scribble that vaguely resembles the name 'Kairi']---------------- Screen Name: Malaystryx Character Name: ---- Stage alias: Kairi Kitsune, the Dark Diva ---- Birth: Unknown (Malay Nihlo) Gender: Female Race: Hume Age: 27 Main Job: Performer, Jack of All Trades (Redmage) Subjob: Blackmage / Dancer Other Jobs: Dancer, Thief Birthplace: Unknown (Bastok) Residence: Unknown (Windurst) Family: Unknown, however there are occasional hints of a brother. Appearance: Kairi stands at about five feet and seven inches tall, and perhaps a hundred and forty pounds with a fairly athletic build. Her hair is a dark brown that falls to the middle of her back, and her skin is quite pale. Her eyes are large and slightly almond-shaped. She has central heterochromia; the outer rim is a brown-hazel and the inner rim is a sky-blue. Her other features are hidden behind the mask she wears, however there are hints of tattoos on her cheeks. She prefers aketon-style shirts; she is most commonly seen in a black one with gold embroidery. She seems to have a problem with her left arm; she lacks fine-motor control in that hand, and she often complains about aches and pains in her shoulder and sometimes suffers numbness and loss of control of the arm. There is evidence that she keeps it wrapped in bandages, even under long sleeves, and it seems slightly out of proportion with the rest of her body. Personality: The polite way to describe Kairi's personality is "quirky"; never expect her to react the same way to a re-occurring situation. While usually fairly easy-going, she can be a bit moody and have a bit of a sharp tongue and temper. She seems to have an unreasoning hatred of Elvaan men. Philosophy: "What the majority thinks is 'good' is not always right. What the majority thinks is 'bad' is sometimes necessary." Likes: Teas, seed-cakes, chocobos, thunderstorms, and swimming. Dislikes: Immortals/Blue mages, Elvaan men, mushrooms, and sea monks. Character Bio: Little to nothing of Kairi's past is public knowledge. She first appeared on the scene about a year ago, and is currently earning her keep as a performer. Exactly how good she is can be debated... - Spoiler:
Since Kairi doesn't have much of an actual past, her bio ended up being -very- short. The following is to give a bit more to her past, however it should NOT be used in-character. If you don't want to know any of this, then read no further.
You have been warned!
-----
Three years ago, a young woman bravely and foolishly followed her friend into a confrontation with the Immortals.
For a year, she had watched him struggle with the effects from experiments the Imperial Alchemists had done on him when he became a Bluemage. Watched as the boy she had grown up with became something darker, something almost scary. Despite this and the danger he often posed, she did what she could to stay by his side. To continue being his friend.
She had abandoned him once... in her heart, she blamed herself for what had happened to him.
So when he went to confront his makers, as it was, she went with him. He did his best to persuade her not to go, that it might be a trap. She refused to let him go alone. And, indeed, it was a trap; one that neither escaped. The Immortals and the Imperial Alchemists had deemed him a failure, and she was to replace him.
For many months, the Imperial Alchemists experimented on her, trying to perfect a new form of Blue magic. They stripped her of her identity and erased her memories, trying to turn her into a perfect empty vessel. But for all their efforts she seemed to cling to some shred of mostly-forgotten memory, something that ultimately made their attempts unsuccessful. Plans were made to destroy her.
Luck, fate, or something else intervened. The Lamia attacked the city when it was nearly defenseless. And with the Immortals distracted she was able to escape and, in the chaos of the attack, she was found by her friend. He had survived the confrontation with the Immortals, if only just barely, and saved by some unlikely allies. Although she could not remember his name or who he was, he took her with him. She remained with him, and over time she began to show signs of recovering.
Now reasonably stable, she and her friend earn their keep as traveling performers and occasionally take mercenary work. Considering their backgrounds they both tend to try to avoid contact with the Immortals, however they do not shy away from defending Al Zahbi when the city is under attack. Most of their mercenary attention, though, has been focused on Windurst and whatever lies beyond the Cavernous Maws.
The exact extent of the trauma she suffered is still unknown. She has fully recovered physically, sans her left arm which seems to have been amputated and replaced with a new one. Naturally left-handed, she now has issues with fine-motor control, numbness, and a form of phantom-limb pain. Her memory has begun to return, however it is fragmented and some memories may have been unintentionally influenced by stories. Her emotional state, though, still has many open wounds and she has some issues concerning her identity; where exactly 'Kairi' ends and Malay Nihlo begins is almost impossible to tell. She is also prone to mood swings, violent nightmares, and bouts of confusion.
