Within the realms of Vana'diel lie the sleeping gods. By obtaining a special tuning fork from Tarutaru researchers around Vana'diel one can muster up the courage and strength to face these mighty beings. An individual must ring the tuning fork upon an ancient crystal, a Protocrystal, being drawn within the realm of the gods and awakening them. Here, a brave soul must wager their lives in a game to amuse the gods. Should they win, a pact may be formed between the person and god allowing the person to call upon the god in a lesser form. This type of person is called a Summoner.
