| The following text in italics is taken from the official site. This kingdom of proud Elvaan warriors is situated to the north of the Quon continent and was built on the ashes of a brutal civil war.Administrative Organization It has been ruled by a succession of kings from the d'Oraguille royal family for a span of more than five hundred years. The KingKing Destin rules San d'Oria currently. His wife passed away long ago. He is the father of Prince Trion, Prince Pieuje and Princess Claidie. The King is also first cousins and good friends with Valaineral R Davilles, whom he learned most of his diplomacy and public affair skills from. Though ultimate decider of law and action of the kingdom and its military he also has deferred some power to his two sons. The Princes and PrincessPrince Trion, Prince Royal, is the eldest son of King Destin, and a fierce rival of his brother to the throne. The more militaristic of the brothers he often takes interest in foreign policy though his temperament makes things difficult. Pieuje, Prince Regent, is the youngest son of King Destin. He disapproves of his brother's conduct much of the time and keeps to the domestic matters of the Kingdom in general. It is said that the two do not get along, and between them, numerous political and religious quarrels have broken out that have gone so far as to affect even the highest levels of the government and the church. It is said that they were the closest of brothers at least until the debate over the crown began, however the fact that they still care a great deal for one another can clearly be seen at others. Princess Claidie is the youngest child and only daughter of King Destin. She is very fond of her mother and visits her grave daily. She is often considered the Royal with the most common sense and she intervenes in her brother's quarrels keeping the peace in the royal family. Military Organization The kingdom's capital of San d'Oria is a walled city defended by two orders of knights: the Royal Knights, who patrol the country's borders and seek to expand its territories, and the Temple Knights, responsible for protecting the city itself and maintaining domestic tranquility.Military OrganizationThe San d'Orian army is divided into two arms: the Royal Knights and the Temple Knights. As well as having different duties, both orders are structured in different ways. The Royal KnightsThe Royal Knights are under the direct command of the king, forming the backbone of the San d'Orian army. Their main duties include regular punitive expeditions against the beastmen, along with patrolling and defending the country's borders. The order consists of around one hundred units led by a general. A single unit is headed by one Royal Knight, with a retinue of two to three Royal Swordsmen and four to five Royal Squires of the same bloodline. The body of the unit is made up of around sixty Royal Archers and Royal Spearmen. A Grand Knight of the Realm has ten Royal Knights as subordinates, and accordingly commands a force ten times the strength of a normal unit.
The Royal Knights are generally well-trained Elvaan nobles or Elvaan adventurers with extensive battle experience--men and women of unfailing morale and unquestionable loyalty to the crown. In times of war, numbers are bolstered by provincial troops from all corners of the kingdom.Rahal S Lebrart is the current leader of the Royal Knights. His past involves some shady characters, but his heart is pure. He is widely regarded for his knowledge of most things military (from the training of knights to ancient orders) and his awareness of the goings on within the nation's holdings. Royal Knights: ~ 7000The Temple KnightsThe Temple Knights are a religious order charged with maintaining civil harmony within the capital. In times of peace, the Temple Knights are responsible for arresting criminals and heretics, providing security for the Chateau d'Oraguille and the cathedral, and putting down civil strife. When war engulfs the kingdom, they are often sent to the battlefield; in war, their duties extend to holding prayers for victorious outcomes and punishing crime and acts of immorality within the San d'Orian army. The Order of the Temple Knights consists of around sixty units led by a general. An average unit is formed by thirty Myrmidons under the command of a Temple Knight and ten Temple Squires who have been baptized by the papsque. A Grand Temple Knight has ten Temple Knights as subordinates, and accordingly commands a force ten times the strength of a normal unit.
All funding for Temple Knight activities comes from the San d'Oria Cathedral, so while they are theoretically under the command of the king, any large-scale mobilization requires the permission of the papsque. The commander of the Temple Knights during the Crystal War was Febrenard C Brunnaut. Curilla is the current leader of the Temple Knights and bravest warrior within the military. The side of her face has been scarred due to an accident while sparring with Prince Trion and there are rumors a romance might be brewing between the two. Temple Knights: ~ 2500The Royal GuardThe Royal Guard is unit of knights responsible for the protection of the king and the royal family. Exact numbers are unknown, but this unit is thought to hold close to one hundred members, traditionally chosen from the two orders of knights. It is considered to be an extremely high honor to be offered a position in the Royal Guard, and recently many adventurers of remarkable achievements can be found within their ranks. Valaineral R Davilles has been the leader of the Guard since during the Crystal War. Royal Knights: 100The Reserve KnightsThis title is given to mercenary and volunteer groups that have been officially sanctioned by the King of San d'Oria. Since they are only paid during times of war, most members of these groups take up adventuring while waiting for the call to arms. Reserve Knights: ?The Dragon Knight(s)The Dragon Knight(s) was originally another knight (Or group of knights) in direct service to the king, but their continued existence has long been unconfirmed. The job Dragoon and its role in San d'Oria's history is mostly likely derived from this elusive sect of the San d'Oria Military. In fact, it could be said that General Erpalacion B Chanoix, better known as "The Last Dragoon", was in fact the last Dragon Knight. Dragon Knight: ...? Industry Despite the fact that San d'Oria's culture revolves around the use of iron, it is a technologically stagnant society. However, with traditional methods passed down over generations, San d'Orian bladesmiths forge weapons that rival the swords of the East and are known throughout the world for their quality.Elvaan craftsmen also are famous both for the quality of their armor both black smithed, though Bastok now rivals it in this regard, and that of leather make. The Black Smith’s Guild has presence here and the Leatherworker’s Guild has its headquarters here. Even though it lies in a relatively cold region, San d'Oria has long been able to export its verdant crops of wheat and rye, along with shipments of lumber, through the independent town of Selbina. Also, large imported Selbina sheep can be seen grazing in the furthest reaches of the kingdom.Links FFXI Official Site: San d' Oria
